New Blood: Emerging Talent/Max Show on the Dubai Fashion Week S/S 11

I dropped by at the Dubai Fashion Week Summer/Spring 2011 last Tuesday, and to say that I had a blast would be an understatement. As expected, the designers were really good. I can't even tell you which one of them's my favorite, because all of them were good in their own ways, and that's what's important.

The first show held at 2pm, showcased 6 emerging designers (Nasrine Dechahe,Niteesh Singh Chauhan, Nova Krishnan, Sachin Gada, Samah Ali, Susan Jacob)  and the recent collection of the Max brand.

The view from where I was

Nasrine Dechahe
Nasrine Dechahe
I met Nasrine Dechahe just after the show, and she was just so sweet. I congratulated her on her show, and complimented on how each of her pieces were both hip and chic at the same time. They also look very comfortable, so I would definitely wear them. Comfort + style has always been my priority. And you just got to love the colors!
Nova Krishnan
Nova Krishnan
Nova Krishnan is probably the one among these designers who's had too much practice strutting her stuff on the runway. This beautiful lady right here is actually a model for some time, former Miss India UAE and Femina Miss India finalist. And now she's literally strutting her stuff on the runway. The first thing that I noticed about her designs were how the details were very intricate. And each embellishment was, I'm sure, handmade. I've always loved Indian prints, motifs, and colors. The fabrics also worked well together with the whole concept. She definitely nailed this one.

Sachin Gada

Sachin Gada
Sachin Gada is no newcomer to the world of Fashion. In fact, he has already worked for top designers like Valentino, Balenciaga, Chanel and Zipzone Louvre in Paris. You can't expect less than the best from him, and his collection in this year's show will prove you right. He has a lot of interesting pieces. And I wish I wasn't too awestruck so I could have taken pictures. His collection can be summed up in one word: jaw-dropping.

Niteesh Singh Chauhan

Niteesh Singh Chauhan
When the first model came out, I honestly didn't pay much attention. He was wearing a plain white suit. But when he had his back turned to me, he definitely caught me off guard and got my attention. As you can see from the photo above, the back was tie-dyed. People started taking out their cameras and took pictures of the model's back. Niteesh Singh Chauhan definitely proved that beauty and style is not always upfront, or out in the open. Sometimes, it's hidden, and that's what makes it interesting. And he did got your attention, right?

Samah Ali from Preston University

Samah Ali from Preston University
This is my second time to attend a show by the Preston University, or at least, with their participation. Preston is one of the top universities for Fashion here in the UAE, and I wouldn't be surprised that one of their students is showcasing her designs in th fashion week. And Samah Ali is one of the fruits of this institution. In this show, she modernized the Abaya, or the traditional dress of the women of the UAE. A lot of designers have already done that, but what she did was something really new. Abayas has always been deemed to be conservative. But Samah added a little bit of edginess and if I must say, sexiness to it without compromising its identity.

Susan Jacob

Susan Jacob
This collection touched my heart. It is actually dedicated to breast cancer patients. And I've always supported this cause in every way I can. The presentation was touching, and you will really see the relevance of the theme to the collection. I didn't know you can actually inspire from causes like these. The dresses themselves are also interesting and very different. Susan Jacob really knows how to shake things up, but still conveying the message perfectly.

Max

Max
I've always been a fan of Max's outfits. I think that they're stylish and affordable at the same time. And as I have learned, you don't have to buy the expensive stuff to be stylish. Max offers a wide range of fashionable and stylish choices. And the best part is that they're all comfortable for everyday wear. There collection this season has featured a lot of affordable looks. You can be as stylish as you want to be without spending more than your supposed to.

These were the few pictures I have of the first show. I wasn't able to take much because I wanted to see them live. Seeing them on my camera lens won't do them justice. These emerging designers will definitely give the veterans a run for their money. I actually forgot that they were the emerging designers when I saw their show. Every single one of them has something really good to bring to the table, and I'm hoping to see more of them in future shows.
